The British Council values – valuing people, integrity, mutuality, creativity and professionalism – underpin everything we say and do, how we work with people, how we behave towards people and each other, and how we communicate.
WHAT DO OUR VALUES MEAN? Valuing people means that we treat people with courtesy and respect, listen to what they have to say and try to respond in a helpful way. We value them as individuals in all their personal and cultural diversity, and we aim to help give them the opportunity to use and develop their talents. Integrity means that we are true to our beliefs. We are honest, consistent in what we say and do, and take responsibility for our own decisions and actions. Mutuality means that we build our work around relationships, learn from and share with other people, and work towards common goals so that everyone benefits. Creativity means that we value ideas and innovation. We try to be imaginative, inventive and resourceful in our approach. We aim to present the best in creativity, encourage people to be creative and to create new ideas in an atmosphere of trust. Professionalism means that we do what we say that we are going to do and keep our promises. We take pride in our work, and take individual and collective responsibility for making sure that it is delivered to a high standard.
